The neurocritical care fellowship at Washington University started in 1998 under Dr. Michael Diringer. In those days residents were offered positions by phone, duty hours did not exist, and fellows were always on call. The practice of neurocritical care was new, exciting, and full of discovery. Our identity was created in that time and we continue to evolve. We are proud to continue to foster an environment that is diverse, inclusive, and equitable while implementing best practice from ACGME.

The two-year fellowship has grown to four fellows per year and one research fellow. Fellows experience a structured curriculum to hone their skills including multidisciplinary rounding, hands-on experience with procedures in simulation lab, one-on-one mentoring, and weekly didactics. The clinical training is one of the most rigorous in the country and creates world class intensivists capable of handling the daily adversity and clinical emergencies that arise in the ICU.

Applications for our four annual positions will be accepted through the SFmatch. We will consider applications from residents & fellows eligible for licensure in Missouri, including those with H-1 and J-1 visas. Thank you for your interest in our program at Washington University.
