Message from the Chair

David Holtzman, MD

Welcome to the website of the Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine.

The tripartite mission of the department is to provide outstanding clinical care, train leading neurologists and scientists of the future, and to be an international leader in clinical and basic research on the disorders of the nervous system.

Our goal is to bring scientific research and discovery from the bench to the bedside to improve the lives of our patients. Our department has a long-standing tradition of excellence and we hope the information we have assembled here proves useful to you.

The department has fourteen Clinical Services, each staffed by faculty and other providers who serve patients through hospitals and medical facilities affiliated with the Washington University School of Medicine.

Neurology Research Labs are located throughout the University in the East Building, Biotech Building, McMillan Building, the BJC-Institute of Health, IWJ Building, and the East McDonnell Science Building.

A new neuroscience research building is now being built and is planned to open in the Spring of 2023.  It will house well over 100 laboratories including most of the wet bench research labs from the Dept. of Neurology.

The Farrell Learning and Teaching Center provides the ideal learning environment for the student education, in addition to learning on the floor and in the hospital.
