The Pediatric Neurology Residency Training Program at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children's Hospital has a long and distinguished track record for producing excellent pediatric neurologists---it is an outstanding place to train. Dr. Phil Dodge created our program in 1967 when he arrived to take the helm of the Department Pediatrics. Since the inception of our program, we have considered it our mission to prepare our graduates for any career pathway in pediatric neurology, including research, leadership, and community practice.

We enjoy an excellent relationship with our colleagues in the Department of Pediatrics allowing our residents to function as Fellows supervising pediatric residents on our Neuromedicine and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit services. Indeed, our residents are often awarded the "Outstanding Fellow Teaching Award" by the Pediatric housestaff. We have a large faculty with diverse clinical and research interests, who are superb role models for the variety of ways to build a career in academic pediatric neurology. We have several community child neurologists on our clinical faculty who are excellent role models for private practice child neurology. The neuroscience community at Washington University is truly world class making research opportunities abundant.

St. Louis Children's Hospital ranks #5 among children's hospitals, according to the February 2009 issue of Parent Magazine. The hospital, and our neurological care, services the city of St. Louis, the immediate bi-state region of eastern Missouri and southern Illinois, as well as a 300 mile radius catchment area. Our specialists see "2nd opinions" from all over the country and internationally. There is no lack of patient number or diversity.
