Dr. Lopate is involved in both clinical and basic science studies of neuromuscular disease and also sees patients in the Neuromuscular Disease clinic and in the Electrodiagnostic Lab. Clinical research interests include participation as an investigator in drug and natural history trials for patients with ALS, autoimmune neuropathy, inflammatory myopathies and hereditary myopathies. Basic science interests focus on the role of autoantibodies in peripheral neuropathies. In particular Dr. Lopate is studying glycolipids and glycoproteins as potential targets in autoimmune disease and their role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune peripheral neuropathies.
Medical TrainingDr. Lopate was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1961. He graduated from high school in 1979 before going to Colorado State University to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, graduating cum laude and being selected to join the Phi Beta Kappa society.
