Department of Neurology

Andria Ford, MD

Our current research focus is magnetic resonance imaging in hyper-acute ischemic stroke with specific attention to metabolic and hemodynamic parameters which give information about physiology during acute ischemia. In addition, we have several NIH-funded acute stroke trials in the Emergency Department including observational studies, phase 2 safety trials, and a phase 3 neuro-interventional study. Two of these acute stroke trials are NIH funded SPOTRIAS trials for which Washington University is the primary site.

Medical Training

She received her undergraduate degrees in biomedical and electrical engineering at Duke University. She received her MD degree from University of Oklahoma School of Medicine and completed an internship in Internal Medicine and Neurology residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. She received the Leonard Berg Prize for research conducted during residency. She completed a two year clinical and research stroke fellowship under the mentorship of Jin-Moo Lee, MD, PhD. Outside of research, she treats acute stroke patients admitted to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Stroke Service. She also sees chronic stroke patients in the Washington University Comprehensive Stroke Center. She supervises residents in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital General Neurology Clinic and at St. Louis Connect Care Neurology Clinic.
